The designer spotlight today is on David Scott of David Scott Interiors. David's practical yet stimulating stylenever disappoints. The image above is from a New York residence in Central Park West. It features the ever so popular Hicks Pendants in the bronze/hand-rubbed antique brass finish as well as the Six Light Square Tube Chandelier over the breakfast table.

The Architect's Swing Arm Wall Lamp is used in the bedroom on either side of the over-sized headboard. The room is filled with a mixture of patterns and luxurious textures that creates a sense of elegance.

The Architect's Swing Arm Wall Lamp is so handsome and well balanced above the small bedside tables.

Housing Works' 7th Annual Design on a Dime Event

Housing Works hosted the 7th Annual Design on a Dime opening reception on May 5, a three-day charitable interior design event, silent auction and public sale that raises funds for Housing Works� lifesaving services for homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with HIV/AIDS.

This year�s event showcased the largest-ever roster of designers and celebrities who created 56 gorgeous room vignettes using new, donated merchandise, which was then sold for 50 to 70% off.

Among these talented designers were Patrick J. Hamilton and Katie Lydon to whom we would like to extend a tremendous thank you for incorporating Circa pieces into their room designs. It's wonderful to be part of such a great project!!

Laura Bohn Design Associates vignette featuring The Derrick Tower Table Lamp

Circa Lighting was proud to team up with several of our interior design clients including Laura Bohn Design Associates to be a part of the annual Design Works "Design on a Dime" charity event held last week in New York.

Laura Bohn Design Associates also placed the Multi-V Adjustable Table Lamp in their vignette

50 designers were given an 8' x 10' room to design their own unique vignette - Laura Bohn Design Associates chose "camping chic" as their theme. All of the items in the rooms were donated by vendors like Circa Lighting and sold during the event.

Proceeds from the three day event will help Housing Works fund their new Housing Development project for single, formerly homeless adults living with HIV/AIDS.

Circa Lighting supports the 5th Annual Wag-O-Ween Event!

Circa Lighting in Savannah joined approximately 80 other local businesses in the downtown design district to participate in the 5th Annual Wag-O-Ween celebration on Saturday, October 24th. Dog owners purchased maps listing all participating businesses with proceeds benefiting the local Humane Society. Decked out in colorful costumes pets and their people toured the downtown area trick-or-treating for dog friendly treats. If you've been to our Savannah showroom you know how we feel about dogs.

Of course we took pictures!

Thanks to all participating businesses and all who came! What a wonderful success!

Houston Magazine Introduces - The Texas French Home Tour 2009

We invite you to the 2009 Texas French Home Tour at Place des Vosges in the midst of Uptown Park, Post Oak Blvd and Tanglewood. 5,900 sq. ft of French-inspired architecture, interiors designed by Mecox Gardens and Bridget Wade Interiors, and fabulous lighting by Circa Lighting. This extraordinary tour of a $2.2 million home will run from October 24, 2009 - January 15, 2010, Wednesday - Sunday, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm. Tickets are $10.00 per person (children under 12 are free) and can be purchased at the door.

All proceeds benefit the Neuhaus Education Center.

Place des Vosges is a Butler Brothers custom home development project in the Galleria/Uptown Park area of Houston, Tx. Inspired by a classic French plaza, Place des Vosges combines old world and modernism in a clean design, punctuated with sophisticated ornamentation making it the perfect placement for Circa Lighting. Inspired Designs: A Show House Celebrating Extraordinary Women

Check out the press release for the Inspired Designs Show House with opening reception on October 21, 2009. If you're in New York, you don't want to miss this!

The show house "will benefit the breast Cancer Research Foundation founded by Evelyn H. Lauder. Mrs. Lauder will host the opening reception on Thursday, October 21st from 6:00-8:00pm. The show house is designed as a tribute to iconic women from the worlds of fashion, style, culture and the arts- women who have inspired the designers with their extraordinary sensibilities and achievements.

Among the designers participating in "Inspired Designs" are Aman & Carson, Bradley Stephens, Cullman & Kravis, David Scott Interiors, Greg Lanza Design, Healing Barsanti, Inson Dubois Wood, Jennifer Flanders, John Barman, Nancy Corzine, Patricia Fisher, Pat Kreisler, Patrik Lonn, Rinfret Interiors, and S. Love This Life - Home Tour

The beautiful kitchen above is from the home of Mandy with Love This Life blog. Her home is simply stunning and we are happy to share some of the images with you. The kitchen has a clean, fresh appeal and has two of the Honore Hanging Lanterns over the island. Mandy's home has been featured on several different posts by A La Mode as well as on her own blog.

This kitchen truly is unbelievable...from the white subway tile and marble to the industrial bar stools, it's definitely one of our favorites! You can see the full post about the kitchen here on A La Mode.

The master bathroom is another space that is gorgeous and breathtaking. The custom wood work around the tub is to die for and really sets the tone of luxury in the room. The Medium Paris Flea Market Chandelier is Antique Burnished Brass is magnificent over the tub.

Our Vendome Single Sconces in Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass by Thomas O'Brien are used over the sink.

M. E. Beck Design, Inc. is a Texas based designer that says attention to detail is their signature. The details in the dining room of this Austin home all come together perfectly to create a classic, elegant space.

The room is filled with a combination of textures from the fabrics, modern art and traditional furniture. The two Large Double Twist Chandeliers by Eric Cohler are a nice surprise in Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass.

We just love the idea of using two chandeliers over the dining table for a nice change from the typical use of just one. Would you ever consider using two over your table?

Lovely Things

We recently came across Lovely Things; a blog authored by Annie who is obsessed with lighting and how it can be used to create a calm, warm environment. We were really thrilled to see how many of our lights she used in doing just that throughout her home.

In the image above and below, she used lanterns from Bevolo - which can be purchased through any of our showrooms - to create an inviting entrance.

Sconces are a great way to provide indirect, soft light in small spaces. Here she uses the Single Square Tube Wall Light and leaves it on even during the day.

The same sconce is used again in the upstairs hallway.

She uses the Wilton Single Sconce in polished nickel in more than one place. It's featured with both the natural paper shade and again in the bathroom with the white glass shade.

Annie did a great job of showing us what a difference lighting can make! Her home is lovely and so inviting.

Classic Casual Home

Classic Casual Home recently had a post about the author's home and we were so excited to see many of our lights used throughout! The home is a 1950's beach cottage located on Lido Isle in California. They remodeled it and the transformation beautiful. The Margarite Iron Chandelier is used over the dining table in the photo above.

The Oval Ring Torch Chandelier is stunning over the island!

The kitchen has a cozy seating are that's perfect for reading or visiting with the cook. The Boston Functional Library Wall Lights in Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass are perfect over the leather chairs.

Their teenage son's bathroom was mostly decorated with great flea market finds but they used the Single French Library Sconces to flank the mirror.

The Basil Flush Mount in Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass adds a special touch to their daughter's room that is used as a guest room.

Design in the Woods posted this project reveal a few days ago featuring our Goodman Hanging Lights in bronze and the space is amazing! The designer, Carla Aston, was called in to take on the challenge of this remodel and make it warm and comfortable while showing off the homeowner's antiques and collectables.

The wood floors and island really ground space against the light colored walls. The Goodman Hanging Lights over the island are clean and simple choice but really make a statement in the room.

Amy Meier of Amy Meier Designs recently featured this before & after project on her blog. You may not believe it by looking at the photo above, but she transforms this space into a tranquil retreat for the homeowner's guests.

She used soft grays and butter yellow with creamy whites to create a calm environment. The gilded iron lamps on either bedside bring in a sense of personality and interest to the space.

I personally, would love the opportunity to stay in this guest room!

Barry Dixon creatively brings elegance to a Victorian row house in the September issue of House Beautiful.

The Elkins Sconces are fabulous next to Thomas O'Brien's Sophia Mirror in the foyer.

Curtains really bring life to the family room and the Goodman Hanging Lamp mimics the shape of the breakfast table.

Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles recently featured Liz Williams of Liz Williams Interiors for her winning bathroom design in the 22nd Annual Bath Contest.

The remolded bath in Buckhead was a once dated and narrow bath but is now a beautifully detailed master suite.

The Ziyi Sconces in bronze are stunning against the soft, feminine details.

Congratulations to Liz on winning the contest and thank you for incorporating our items into the project!

Dabble Magazine just released its third issue and just as the first two, its inspiring and delightful!

Nyla Free, of Nyla Free Designs in Calgary, has been gracious enough to use Circa Lighting in her Reality Check column that is featured on page 24 of this issue.

The Soleil Pendant is shown here in Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass and the Single Square Tube Sconces are used very cleverly on the bookshelves.

Ken Fulk Dresses Up A San Francisco Victorian Home.

Antique meets modern in the living room of this San Francisco Victorian home by Interior Designer Ken Fulk. He uses a black and white palette, softens it with neutrals and natural textures and then surprises you with pops of red throughout.

The Medium Arch Top Lantern in polished nickel graces the entry along with vintage upholstered chairs in a simple white cotton used throughout.

The Morris Hanging Lantern takes center stage in the living room along with the chimney breast covered in Ralph Lauren Home's black Yacare Crocodile paper.

The dining room is "kept simple and not too expensive" Ken says. The Small George II Chandelier adds an elegant touch to the room.

Three small rooms were combined and a conservatory skylight added to create a big, sunny kitchen. The Country Industrial Pendants With Metal Shades are hung over the island and the Garey Wall Lights are used on either side of the range and hood.

Moby stands in his pool house over looking the Hollywood Hills

Last year while looking at houses in the Hollywood Hills, Moby glanced across Beachwood Canyon and saw "this crazy shining castle." He went to see it and fell in love.

He later hired Los Angeles architecture and design firm, Tim Barber Ltd - a Circa customer - to redo the roof, the kitchen, the plumbing and wiring, and to replace all the windows and add three bathrooms to the main house. He wanted a restoration, not a renovation.

The renovation has restored the house to its 1920s elegance, preserving details like the wood-beamed ceiling.

Ron Marvin, Circa customer and Top 20 "New Traditional" Designer

Ron Marvin was recently selected as one of the Top 20 "New Traditional" Designers by the editors of Traditional Home and Lonny Magazines. His most recent project is featured in the May issue of Traditional Home and the launch issue of the online magazine TRADhome and incorporates several Circa pieces.

The space that Ron has created for this New York City family is timeless with an air of formality but with a hint of chillness. Ron describes his work as modern traditional with a masculine touch.

We want to extend a huge thank you to NY designer Darci Hether for sharing these photographs from a recently completed project on Central Park West in New York City. Part of what makes her interiors so fresh and unique is Darci's philosophy that details matter. Each component plays an important role in the overall esthetic of a room. Thoughtful consideration was given to the elements in this living space and we love the placement of the Ingrid Table Lamp with its bold and sophisticated design.

This triple light pendant featured over the dining table is no longer available but the single light from the series is still in production. The Houston Industrial Pendant has the same great transitional personality as the three light pendant which complements this space without overwhelming it.

Environments H.C. Cooks Up Great Design Inside A Taste Of Britain

Winnie King of Environments H.C. has graciously shared photos from her recent project as the interior designer for A Taste of Britain, a cafe and tea house at The Shops at Eagle Village in Wayne, PA.

Winnie says: "My goal was to make the interiors as scrumptious as the food. In order to do that, I needed to come up with the perfect recipe. Owner Tara Buzan did not want a predictable, stuffy tea shop" rather she was looking for "a warm, eclectic, unique little jewel".

Circa Lighting is thrilled to be part of Winnie's design plan. The entry features our gorgeous Caged Lantern in Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass while the interior is lit with our Bead And Tassel Chandelier and Bryant Sconces also in Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass.

Saturday's article Design a la Carte with Alexa Hampton by Karen Taylor Gist at NOLA.com is a great read and offers a unique look into the mind of one of Circa Lighting's incredible designers.

Gist writes: "Once I found out that her sense of humor is as sharp as her sense of style, that she's animated and quick with a quip... we played a little game of word association. I tossed out some phrases, and fast and furiously funny, she tossed right back at me loads of design advice and information."

A couple of weeks ago, Wendy with Desire to Decorate, posted this photo from Thai Chong of our Quatrefoil Table Lamps by Suzanne Kasler. Wendy's post about the quatrefoil motif was so inspiring that we thought we would expand upon it and share some more beautiful pieces we have that utilize the same pattern.

Suzanne Kasler's Quatrefoil collection also include a floor lamp and a sconce.



Though not titled the same, Suzanne's Margarite pieces feature the same pattern.





And, as Wendy pointed out, our Basil Flush Mount by Alexa Hampton, also makes use of the classic shape.

Thanks Wendy for inspiring us with a reminder of this timeless and elegant shape - we love it, too!

Secrets of Success

Gale Singer, owner of Circa Lighting, was recently featured in an article in Savannah Magazine. Gale shared her personal advice for business achievement.

Her first bit of advice comes from Winston Churchill, "Never, never, never, never give up." She goes on to say she ranks perseverance as the most important skill necessary to achieving business success. Gale has obviously found the right prescription for business achievement and has never let anything stand in her way of doing something she really wanted to do.

Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 2011

Circa lighting in Savannah made a 2011 resolution to be involved in team fitness and we�ve been signing up for different 5K runs around the city ever since. This past Saturday we laced up our tennis shoes again to run as part of Team Terri during the Susan G. Komen 5K Race for The Cure.

Each year The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series raises money and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates survivors and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. We joined forces with Team Terri in honor of local Savannah mother, Terri Lank, who lost her battle with breast cancer this past February. Terri was a wonderful and inspirational woman whose memory was carried in the hearts of the many different people who ran on her team � friends, family members and inspired strangers alike.

Though the forecast called for thunderstorms, the streets remained dry and the sun came out from behind the clouds as people began making their way to the finish line. Running the beautiful course through downtown Savannah was fabulous, and being part of such a great cause was stirring and emotional.

So far Team Terri has raised $26,034 for Susan G. Komen and we�re proud to say that our group of Circa participants collectively raised $3,000 dollars!!

Circa's New Administrative Office

Circa Lighting has moved its corporate office to a historic building located at 508A W. Jones Street in the downtown area of Savannah, Ga. The new office will accommodate personnel in accounting, customer service, warehousing, sales and management. The showroom will remain in its current location at 405 Whitaker Street in the Downtown Design District of Savannah.

Founded in Savannah in 1998, Circa Lighting originally opened its doors with a modest 375 sq. ft. showroom that has grown to nearly four times that size today. As the company has grown and expanded its sales staff, so has the need for more space. The new 4,000 sq. ft. location includes a spacious 2,200 sq. ft. warehouse for shipping and receiving and 1,800 sq. ft. of call center and offices.

Owner Gale Singer realized "the move offered an opportunity to create an innovative work environment by implementing new eco-friendly construction trends. With the new DIRTT plant in Savannah, we found the perfect resource to fulfill our vision of creating an environmentally conscious workplace with a design aesthetic to match the Circa Lighting brand."

DIRTT stands for Doing It Right This Time and are used for office interiors as an alternative to conventional studs and drywall construction. DIRTT walls are modular and engineered to easily move to another location. This provides a more sustainable solution to building on-site and rebuilding when change occurs.

In their renovation of the property, Circa Lighting employed the services of local contractor Mark Albee with Albee Contracting and other local businesses including National Office Systems, Byte-Ryte Computers and Integrated Network Solutions, Inc. NOS supplied workstations from Herman Miller�s Vivo Interiors collection made of safe materials and recycled content. Carpet tiles were selected allowing for the ease of removal and replacement without the use of nails or padding. Many of the existing amenities in the historic building were utilized and re-purposed into the new design. The culmination of these intentional choices has resulted in a contemporary workspace with respect of the environment and the historical integrity of the building itself.

We are thrilled to see so many of our items featured in the April 2012 issue of House Beautiful and are thankful to the designers who chose our product for their spaces!

One of the many gorgeous spreads, "The Warm Side of Modern", is of a Connecticut home designed by photographer, Bonnie Edelman.

The Hudson Floor Lamp by Thomas O'Brien and the Frame Makers 8" and 18" Picture Lights are shown in the living room.

The bedroom, which is comfortable and interesting, features the Large Ring Table Lamp and the Architect's Swing Arm Sconce.

One of the other bedrooms in the home has a great window seat that is perfect for relaxing or curling up with a good book. You'll see our Bryant Sconces by Thomas O'Brien on either side of the window.

The next spread, "Boldly Pretty", by designer Kelie Grosso, is just as inspiring as the previous one. It begins in the hallway with our Longacre Sconces by Thomas O'Brien and the Small Basil Flush Mount by Alexa Hampton.

The study is a very cozy space...the Large Soleil Pendant by Suzanne Kasler adds a funky flair while the Frame Makers 18" Picture Lights are functional and classic.

We are loving pink and colorful accessories in this sitting area where they chose a pair of our Lotus Floor Lamps by Barbara Barry.

They used the same color palette and feminine touches in the bedroom as well as a pair of our Classic Swing Arm Lamps for reading.

The master bath is one that anyone can appreciate! They used our Bryant Sconces alongside a very traditional mirror and the Simple Scallop Pendant for an added touch of elegance.

And, last but certainly not least, the Bath of the Month features our Hulton Double-Arm Sconces by Thomas O'Brien.

The newest issue of Lonny Magazine is out and it's as great as we anticipated! It's full of all kinds of design fabulousness (that's a word, right?).

In the market section, we were excited to see two of our table lamps featured. The first one is the Gable Table Lamp in Black and Gold Porcelain by Ralph Lauren Home. And, if black and gold don't strike your fancy, then you can choose from the other two color combinations available.

As an option for the Tailored Bohemienne look, they chose the elegant Oval Stacked Crystal Bedside Lamp. Crystal lamps are one of the most versatile pieces you can choose. They really seem to fit any style and we have a large selection to choose from on our website.

The Architectural Digest Greenroom at the 84th Academy Awards

Last night was the big night - the 84th Academy Awards - and millions of people tuned in to see Hollywood's finest honor the best of the best. But, have you ever wondered where the presenters and honorees hang out during the awards? We posted a sneak peak here a couple of weeks ago and we have more photos to share with you now of the backstage lounge area known as the Architectural Digest Greenroom designed by Waldo Fernandez.

Champagne was served from a custom-designed bar where the Terri Crystal Accent Lamp was used one one end and the Ruhlman Sconces in Antique Nickel were featured on either side.

In one of the main seating areas, the Longacre Small Table Lamp in Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass adds accent lighting on a side table.

The Ruhlman Chandelier is a focal point over the table in one of the smaller sitting areas off the main living room.

The space is stylish and relaxing - wouldn't you agree?

A SoCal Bachelor Pad

Parrish Chilcoat and Joe Lucas of Lucas Studio Inc. designed a masculine, yet cozy, bachelor pad for a Southern California professional hockey player that was recently featured in House Beautiful. The space is modern and inviting but above all, is a place for relaxing and entertaining.

The loggia is a place for year-round entertaining with a fireplace, heat lamps overhead, and synthetic wicker furniture. The Brantley Lanterns in Verdigris add a rustic feel to the space.

The guest room is comfortable and functional with a desk and armchair at the foot of the bed. The Caged Lantern in bronze hangs above the bed and the
Watson Table Lamps in rope add texture to the room and plenty of light.

We love the red vintage surfboard and the Morris Hanging Lantern in aged zinc in the stairwell - very cool!

In the September/October issue of Cooking With Paula Deen, one lucky family received a complete kitchen makeover! As a contributing sponsor of the event, Circa Lighting donated all of the light fixtures featured in the photos below.

From the photo above, you can see the beautiful Round Flatline Chandelier hanging over the dining table as well as the Boston Library Wall Light over the sink.

There are so many components that go into designing the perfect kitchen that is both beautiful and functional. Lighting is definitely one of the most important features as you can see in the photo above. The Roswell Sconces are used on either side of the range to provide extra light in that area. Two of the Goodman Hanging Lamps are placed over the breakfast table to provide adequate lighting for eating or reading the morning paper.

This new kitchen is now the perfect gathering place for cooking, entertaining and playing - it truly is the hub of the household.

A Sea-Inspired Kitchen and Bath

This month's issue of At Home In Arkansas features an interview with designer Tobi Fairley discussing a recent kitchen and bath renovation she designed for clients inspired by the sea. The cool color palette and details turned this once cramped space into beautiful airy rooms that the homeowners will enjoy for years to come.

Three of the Yoke Pendants in polished nickel are used over the island and the Small Cornice Lantern, also in polished nickel, really makes a statement over the breakfast table.

Designer Suzanne Kasler recently chatted with our Atlanta showroom manager, Stephen Center, regarding her Percival Chandelier.

"On one of my first trips to a Paris flea market, I found the antique chandelier that was the inspiration for the Perceval Chandelier. At the time, it was so over-scaled but I was so drawn to it that I bought it without a place to put it. When it arrived, I redesigned my entire kitchen and eating area for the whimsical piece. Everyone that came to the house loved it and wanted to know where I found it. This piece was one of the reasons I started thinking about a collection of lighting because it says so much about my design aesthetic. It is so exciting and fascinating to see how it translates into so many different spaces.�

The Coastal Living 2011 Ultimate Beach House

The Coastal Living 2011 Ultimate Beach House opens today, July 29th, to the public in Norfolk, Virginia and remains open for tours until November 27th.
It will also be featured in the upcoming October issue of Coastal Living.

The wall color in this room is so cool and refreshing. The Reflection Flush Mount helps to set the mood of relaxation.

The unique ceiling in this room adds texture and interest.
I think the Square Tube Chandeliers and Small Siena Flush Mount add the finish touch.

The Southport Pendant in stainless steel really makes a statement in the kitchen!

The 2010 Cape May Designer Show House by Gretchen Kubiak of Black & Poole answered the challenge with a chic yet casual approach.

We were fortunate enough to have Gretchen choose some of our items in her design as seen below with a contemporary piece, the Ziyi Large Chandelier.

The project is underway and scheduled to be revealed on Monday, July 18th in Rockefeller Center.

A Bright and Happy Spot

Southern Living Decorating Editor Lindsay Ellis Beatty renovated her old kitchen and turned it into a bright and happy spot with the use of color, texture and her own personal style.

As you can see in the photo above, layers of colorful fabrics, patterns and a pair of Serge Sconces from Circa Lighting, created a cozy breakfast niche for the family.

Interior designer Amy Morris was recently featured in the February issue of Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles magazine where she mixed modern and classic elements to create a stylish retreat for a family near the Chattahoochee River.

The photo above is of the daughter's room which is young and sophisticated. The pair of Fiona Table Lamps by Thomas O'Brien are really eye catching on either side of the bed. Below is the glam sitting area in the daughter's room featuring the Lotus Floor Lamp by Barbara Barry.

The master bath is breathtaking with beautiful tile work and marble. The upholstered chair adds a soft touch and the Byrant Sconces by Thomas O'Brien blend perfectly over the vanity.

Designer Spotlight: Echelon Interiors and Echelon Custom Homes

Echelon Interiors and Echelon Custom Homes were featured so beautifully today on the House of Turquoise blog so we decided to share the images as well as some others we came across. The one above is from the Indian Beach bay front home and is a stunning home with an open floor plan, light and airy colors that just invite you into the space.The Hicks Pendants in Polished Nickel are shown in a set of three over the island.

Also, in the Indian Beach home, the Boston Head Light Wall Sconces were also used in Hand-Rubbed Antique Brass along with the Armillary Sphere Chandelier. The finishes on these fixtues work so well with the mill work and fabrics in the space.

The luxurious Independence Clubhouse designed by Echelon Interiors has a warm and inviting environment. The game room uses the Double Sloane Street Shop Light as billiard lights and the Yoke Suspended Wall Lights for additional light on the walls around the room.

Each of these spaces is gorgeous and so well designed and styled...just what we needed to start our weekend!

This designer spotlight is focused on the incredibly talented team, Bonesteel Trout Hall, comprised of Heidi Bonesteel, Michele Trout and Jill Hall. Based in Southern California, their style is glamourous and laid back. The firm has taken on projects both nationally and internationally making a name for themselves with their signature "California Look".

The photo above is from a Pacific Palisades residence and features our Large Simple Scallop Chandelier in Bronze over the dining table. The space is cheery and bright with the all of the windows and natural light coming through not to mention the colorful fabrics!

Traditional Home Magazine recently polled several of today's hottest designers and asked them to share their No 1 decorating tips .... here's a great suggestion to consider when selecting the right ceiling fixture from one of our favorite designers, Alexa Hampton.

Do the math
�Chandeliers are famously tricky for people to figure out because they�re hanging in the middle of the room with no points of reference against which to gauge for size. A great rule of thumb that I learned years ago is to take the width of the room in feet, double the number, convert it to inches, and that is the minimum dimension for your chandelier�s diameter. I say minimum because it can always be fun to oversize a chandelier, but one should never have it look dinky. Finally, for utility�s sake, make certain that a chandelier never hangs too low over a dining room table. Always keep in mind that you want to look at your dinner companions, whether they�re family or guests.�

Design expert Nate Berkus included several Circa Lighting fixtures to help transform a boring bedroom and office area for this young couple in Arizona during a recent Today Show makeover.

His choice of The Small Cornice Hanging Lantern over the center table in the adjacent office space off the bedroom creates a great focal point. Another clever use of lighting was the installation of the Dorchester 18" Picture Light over the built-in bookcases.

New York Social Diary recently featured the home of one of Circa�s own designers, Eric Cohler. Cohler is renowned for his chic, eclectic taste, which is reflected in his Manhattan apartment. Cohler�s home is filled with art, from paintings and photographs to sculptures and original designer furniture.

Cohler�s home features an eclectic mix of styles, from traditional to contemporary, but he makes it work beautifully. Looking at this image, you know that this home belongs to a stylish person with a strong appreciation for art.

A Second Look at the Living Area

Cohler�s bedroom is more subdued than the rest of the apartment. He has chosen tailored, classic, monogrammed linens and a neutral upholstered headboard and paired them with very traditional furniture. However, the Andy Warhol art and David Hicks� La Fiorentina fabric inject a modern dose of style into the bedroom. The juxtaposition of the classic furniture and pop art is very chic.

Circa Lighting designer, Thomas O�Brien recently released his first book, American Modern and it is wonderful. It chronicles the evolution of modern American design and the way that one can infuse a modern touch into even the most classic, traditional setting. You may be thinking that these titles sound like oxymoron, but that is where O�Brien manages to surprise the reader.

Circa Lighting featured in IT'S COMPLICATED

It's Complicated was my favorite movie of the 2009 Holiday Season.

With its all-star cast and Meryl Streep as the driving force, how could they

go wrong? I found the story to be hilarious and enjoyable, but more than

anything, I fell madly in love with the set design. The laid-back California

interiors and Santa Barbara setting sent my little heart aflutter. It seems

like the aesthetic of the movie was perfectly in line with Circa Lighting's

design philosophy, so the movie sets were filled with Circa products,

naturally.

Meryl Streep plays Jane, whose bakery is a total dream! From the

gorgeous produce to the divine French pastries to the fabulous design

elements like the Eugene Pendants, the place is a knock-out! Can

you imagine working in a place that beautiful? Unfortunately, I think

the pain au chocolat would become an occupational hazard for me,

but at least I'd grow exponentially in the presence of great design!

Jane and Adam pay a visit to her beautiful bakery. Notice the Mercer

Long Box Fixture behind Meryl.

Steve Martin plays Adam, an architect who is remodeling Jane's

house and takes a romantic interest in her. The Elkins Clamp On

Desk Lamp is featured in Adam's office when Jane pays him a

visit there. The Elkins is artistic and true to its roots. It's just the

kind of lamp that a design purist, like an architect, would love.

I love it for its functionality as well as for the bold statement it makes.

Jane's gorgeous Santa Barbara home would make even Ina Garten,

the Barefoot Contessa jealous. Quintessentially Californian, it is

elegant with a relaxed and inviting quality. The Nicky Candlestick

lamps are featured in her home.

If you haven't yet seen It's Complicated, I would highly recommend it.

The film is rather enjoyable and you will come away with so much

inspiration for your own home.

Paloma founded La Doce Vita in the summer of 2007. As

a self-professed "reluctant suburbanite," she began writing

the blog as a respite for summer boredom while working as

a high school Spanish teacher. Paloma describes La Dolce

Vita as "a collection of random musings about who I am and

the things I love. My mission is to feature all of the elements

The Coastal Living 2011 Ultimate Beach House room tour is now available on their website so we thought we'd share some of our favorite rooms with you. The home is located at East Beach in Norfolk, Virginia and is a beautiful seaside retreat through and through. All photos were taken by Tria Giovan, Heather Chadduck is the stylist and Phoebe Howard is the interior designer.

The living room features our Six Light Square Tube Chandelier in bronze and the NY Public Library Floor Lamps in bronze with hand-rubbed antique brass shades. This room really carries out the nautical palette with blues, whites and yellows. Several windows let in an abundance of natural light for a relaxed and airy feeling.

The Six Light Square Tube Chandelier in bronze adorns the dining room table which has a casual feel with the use of banquettes in place of chairs. Gray-white washed ceilings are used from the living room into the dining room and create an easy flow from one room to the next.

Kitchens are the heart of any home and this one is sure to be the spot any family would want to spend most of its time. The new Southport Single Pendant in stainless steel is used over the island and the French Library Double Wall Lamps in hand-rubbed antique brass are used over the sink. I'm not sure what is our favorite part of this kitchen - it's a toss up between the lighting, the combination of white painted and fumed oak cabinets, and the blue recycled ceramic tile. I think we just love it all!

The variety of textures in the master bedroom add interest without distracting you from the gorgeous views from the many windows. The Chubby Baluster Form Table Lamps in crystal add to the airy feel of the room.

The children's bathroom is quaint and features great detail with the planking used in a chevron pattern and painted in a soft gray. The Boston Head Light Wall Sconces in hand-rubbed antique brass add a touch of fun in place of the typical choice for bathroom lighting.

In the carriage house, the kitchen is small yet functional. The Sloane Single Pendants with Glass Shades are a great choice for over the sink.
Not only do they provide task lighting but they also save on space - and look great!

Our hat's off to the entire team that brought together the Coastal Living Ultimate Beach House - it's a retreat we would gladly enjoy visiting!

We are very excited to share a couple of photos from the 2011 Hampton Designer Showhouse. As always, Circa Lighting is thrilled to participate in the various showhouses and we love the opportunity to work with so many wonderful designers.

The image above is from the space designed by Tilton Fenwick and features the Hargett Table Lamp with a custom shade they designed.

The photo above was taken from the master bedroom designed by Ron Fiori of Hickory Chair. He cleverly chose the Large Terri Table Lamp in Alabaster and used it with another lamp on a bookcase.

2010 San Francisco Designer Showcase

San Francisco designer Nancy Eslick chose the Frank Flush Mount in White in her designated bathroom space

This year's San Francisco Designer Showcase is a private residence in Pacific Heights originally designed by architect Albert Farr in the 1920s. The designers who participated in this year's showcase brought a fresh face to the rooms inside this nearly one-hundred year old home. Each designer was given free license to inject their own personal style, like this inviting bathroom (above) designed by Nancy Eslick. The Frank Flush Mount is the perfect ceiling fixture to match the character of the space.

The Narcissus Powder Room designed by Matthew MacCaul Turner features the Boston Head Light Wall Sconce.

Designer Benjamin Dhong covered an Arne Jacobsen "egg chair" in a beautiful cut velvet.

Last and far far from least - one of our favorite San Francisco designers, Benjamin Dhong created a beautiful transformation in the attic reminiscent of a chic Parisian interior.

Southern Living's 2010 Idea House in Louisiana

The Morris Lantern in the breakfast nook

The August issue of Southern Living features the 2010 Idea House in Covington, Louisiana. The house boasts a quaint coastal cottage style with architectural traditions of the Deep South. The open floor plans and vibrant interiors make it fit for the modern family. Circa Lighting was proud to be a contributor to the project, working with designers Grace Kaynor and Vesta Fort.

The designers chose the Morris Lantern (with the glass panels removed) over the built in table and bench seating in the breakfast nook because it "added an element of fun."

Inspired Designs NY Showhouse Update

In September we posted information about the Inspired Designs New York showhouse tour benefitting The Breast Cancer Research Foundation founded by Evelyn H. Lauder. Circa Lighting worked with NY designer Patricia Fisher who drew inspiration from Audrey Hepburn in her sophisticated kitchen designed in soothing hues of taupe and gray. Positioned over the main sink are three Flanders Single Pendants in Polished Nickel with smooth Polished Nickel shades.

We love the placement of The Caged Lantern with Paper Shade in Polished Nickel in the Dining area.

Sarah Coffey over at Apartment Therapy Chicago has a great roundup of interiors showcasing blue, brown and greenish-gold hues. These interiors nail it. The rooms are spa-like and perfectly subdued with just the right amount of pop. It can be challenging enough deciding on your favorite palette, let alone bringing in the right elements to coordinate and complement what you have. As we all know: lighting changes everything. La Dolce Vita on Making a Multi-Million Dollar Home Attainable
